—Wink New Sleep Well

I have been making some songs at camp! I’m working on taking a short album of Dug and draft lyrics for each of the instrumental tracks. This is the first track, “new tazwell.”

Wink New Sleep Well

I’m the one that got away
because you couldn’t hold me back
in a dirty sweaty mess of bodies
you gripped hard but I pushed onwards
I wanted you to keep me but it wouldn’t be honest
because I am stronger than you
and I’ve been told not to fake like I’m not
for the sake of the ego of the ladies I like.
But if you wanted to walk with me
and talk about your feelings
I’d apologize for my bold faced lies
I’m not very good at flirting.

It’s cold in Virginia
at Midnight in June
as the dew settles down
like my best hopes for you.
And soon
soon
soon
there will be another moon.

I dreamed that I was driving
too drunk and too fast
Over rough roads and pot holes
but I did not crash
I made it to you
in the old Thunderdome
it did not look the same
but I knew I was home
You were standing alone
towards the wall moaning low
shorts hitched down
enough to show
me what my own would like to know
and though timid, I gripped
you tensed up and groaned
but sunlight was too bright
and try as I might
morning won over
my unconscious delight

That night was as close
as my dreams could have come
to your trembling breath
now my fingers are numb

It’s cold in Virginia
at Midnight in June
as the dew settles down
like my best hopes for you.
And soon
soon
soon
there will be another moon.

I dreamed that we were riding
on the hood of an apache
though the rotors had cut out
the engines’ power was still blasting
we circled one another
guns loaded cocked and aimed
I wanted not to shoot
but to defeat you all the same
there, we dueled with wanting stares
as we spiraled through the air
eyes half blind by
wind whipped hair
I did not understand
how we’d come to where we stood
and as the ground hurdled upwards
I awoke upset confused

You have yet to find the letter
in your cubby where I stashed it
just a small apology so I
won’t seem like such an asshole.

And all the shooting stars I saw were really lightning bugs.
And all the shooting stars I saw were really lightning bugs.
And all the shooting stars I saw were

It’s cold in Virginia
at Midnight in June
as the dew settles down
like my best hopes for you.
And soon
soon
soon
soon
soon
soon
soon there will be another moon.
