Aladdin

—And You'll Survive

This song is a new version of “Birds in Skirts,” except that it sounds completely different and only about seventeen of the words are the same. Efraim Klein did the music, and the track is off of “Psycho Tandem Mansion.”

my hair is this color by heritage
and I bite my fingernails so they have a rugged edge
I take pride in my sharp eyes
my skin and the tendons it hides
and the organs and muscles inside
not just working but fully alive

gravity will never pull the other way
the earth will never burn in flames
you never remember your dreams when you wake

The heat broke in big house
and so did my lamp
and so it’s cold and it’s dark
in my room where I am
but I don’t feel bad
it’s true
because I know it would be
worse to be with you

and my teeth are real except for one
it’s noon and I’m looking I can’t see the sun
but the moon hasn’t set and it glows through the clouds,
shining proud through the framing of its icy shroud

I come when you beckon
When you cut me, I bleed
although it doesn’t hurt to ask
no, I don’t owe you anything

and you’ll survive
any witch trial
you’ll float
over the edge
of the cliff
and they’ll know;
any human would
have died on the rocks below

(gravity will never pull the other way
the earth will never burn in flames
you never remember your dreams when you wake)

(I come when you beckon
When you cut me, I bleed
although it doesn’t hurt to ask
no, I don’t owe you anything)

(and my teeth are real except for one
it’s noon and I’m looking I can’t see the sun
but the moon hasn’t set and it glows through the clouds,
shining proud through the framing of its icy shroud)
